This Skiathos travel guide follows a one-day itinerary through Skiathos Town and Koukounaries Beach, including the airport bus, a hotel near the harbor, and stops for souvlaki, salad, pasta, and beer.
Skiathos is the kind of place where I want to swim, walk around, eat something good, and temporarily forget everything waiting for me at home.
The buildings, blue water, and flowers growing around doorways and balconies make wandering through town a big part of the experience. Add a bus trip to the beach and dinner outside once the heat settles down, and that is a pretty good day.
In this Maxwell’s Kitchen Euro Trip episode, I explore Skiathos without renting a car. It gets five stars from me.
The Short Answer
You can fit Skiathos Town, a trip to Koukounaries Beach, and several food stops into a one-day visit.
A central base keeps the town portion walkable, while the bus handles the beach trip. That combination makes this route straightforward without trying to squeeze every beach and attraction into the same day.
I would happily spend longer here. One day gives me enough to know I want more.
The One-Day Itinerary
• Arrive at Skiathos Airport and take the bus toward town
• Get settled near the harbor
• Take the bus to Koukounaries Beach
• Return to Skiathos Town for souvlaki and beer at Black Sheep
• Explore the streets, shops, and waterfront
• Stop at Crazy Spoon for salad and pita
• Walk through town as the evening cools down
• Have dinner outside at Vesuvio Pizzeria Ristorante
Getting There
Skiathos Airport (JSI)
My arrival is by air, followed by a bus into town and a short walk from the bus stop.

Getting Around Without a Rental Car
The bus is one of my favorite parts of this visit because the route to the beach is easy to understand.
In the episode, I describe the numbered stops along the main route, with Koukounaries at the end. I take the bus out to the beach, then return to Skiathos Town for food and wandering.
That works well for this particular itinerary. It does not mean the bus reaches every beach or every part of the island.

Casa Blue Sea View is the accommodation featured in the episode, in Skiathos Town’s harbor area.
The appeal for a short visit is being close to the town’s restaurants, shops, and waterfront. You can spend the evening walking around rather than organizing another journey back to your accommodation.

Koukounaries Beach
Koukounaries is the beach stop in this episode.
I take the bus out from town and spend time there on a very hot July day. The heat is intense enough that even walking across the sand becomes uncomfortable, so getting into the water is a major part of the appeal.
If you only have one day, this gives you a beach outing without moving your base out of town. Leave enough time to enjoy it before catching the bus back.
Explore Skiathos Town
Back in town, the architecture and plant life keep catching my attention.
There are vibrant colors against the blue water, with bougainvillea woven around the buildings. In places, it looks as though the flowers are growing straight out of the walls.
This is somewhere I enjoy walking without needing a landmark at the end of every street. Browse the shops, look at the buildings, and make your way back toward the harbor when you want something to eat.
As the sun goes down, the temperature becomes more comfortable and the streets fill with people returning from the beach and deciding where to have dinner.
Food + Drinks
These are the three food stops featured in the episode.
Black Sheep
After returning from Koukounaries, I stop at Black Sheep for a pork souvlaki pita and a large draft beer.
It fits neatly between the beach trip and more exploring around town.
Crazy Spoon
Crazy Spoon is the harbor-side snack stop, where I have salad with feta, pita bread, and a draft beer.
Vesuvio Pizzeria Ristorante
Dinner is outside at Vesuvio, with spaghetti Bolognese, bread, and water.
By this point, the heat has eased and sitting outside watching people walk past is exactly how I want to spend the evening.
Is One Day in Skiathos Enough?
One day works for the version of Skiathos shown here: a central base, one beach trip, time around town, and meals along the way.
It gives you a taste of the island rather than a complete exploration. More time would let you visit additional beaches and spend longer enjoying the places you find.
What wins me over is how much I enjoy the ordinary parts of the day. Swimming, looking around, stopping for food, and walking through town in the evening are enough to make this a place I strongly recommend.
Skiathos gets five stars.
